New Orleans Black Mardi Gras Indian Co-op
A permanent home for New Orleans Black Mardi Gras Indian artists
The JAM Shoppe proudly provides year-round retail space for the New Orleans Black Mardi Gras Indian Co-Op. These master artists create a range of handmade pieces that honor centuries-old traditions—from elaborate beadwork to accessible keepsakes- and 100% of sales go directly to the creators.
“Working with JAMNOLA has been an incredibly rewarding experience and a true win-win for our co-op. Their generosity, support, and genuine commitment to the black masking tradition go far beyond words. This partnership is rooted in mutual respect, shared values, and love for community- this is what real partnership truly looks like.”
Founded in 2014, the New Orleans Black Mardi Gras Indian Co-Op was created to provide economic opportunities for members of the Black masking Indian community. With nine to twelve tribes across the city participating, the cooperative ensures these culture-bearers can sustain their artistry year-round, not just during Carnival season. The co-op's work represents centuries of tradition, honoring both African and Indigenous heritage while supporting the artists who keep this living culture alive.
LOCAL ARTIST & MAKER PARTNERSHIPS
Responsible retail that keeps New Orleans creativity thriving
The JAM Shoppe practices responsible retail by prioritizing products from New Orleans-based small businesses and independent makers. From jewelry and ceramics to art prints and homegoods, we stock work from local creators throughout the city. Every purchase directly supports these makers, who receive a percentage of every sale.
We also feature work created by the artists behind JAMNOLA's installations on Frenchmen Street. These are the same creators who built the immersive exhibits you experience inside JAMNOLA—and now you can take home pieces inspired by or made for those very installations. It's a direct connection between the art on our walls and the art in your hands.
“Our mission is simple: support the cultural community that makes New Orleans so unique by directly funding artists, tradition keepers, and community organizations—keeping the cultural economy strong. And doing it through responsible retail that creates long-term impact.”
